Creating a Photo Collage in Photoshop
For this assignment you have to choose ONE of the following 2 choices of assignment:
Assignment #1: Create a Personal Collage
This collage should have a variety of images found on the internet that represent your personal likes and dislike, hobbies etc… basically is a self-portrait with objects.
Assignment #2: Create a political, social, or economical collage about a current event that you feel strongly about.
For this collage you will need to research your topic, find images and create a collage that represents your point of view and stance on the topic you have chose.
Process:
Step 1:
Create a new folder in Photography on your jump drive and label it "Digital Collage"
Step 2:
Choose the type of collage you want to make. Search for images using Google image search. Save images to the folder you just created in your jump drive. You should have at least 40 images to choose from.
Step 3:
Open Photoshop
Create a new document
Step 4:
Place a background image to collage on, this can be a texture, a picture or a flat color
Step 5:
Note: You can use various selecting tools (i.e. Polygonal Lasso tool or magnetic lasso tool) to select whole image or an area from the image you want to use to include in your collage.
Step 6:
Arrange and re-size (using CTRL + T- free transform) as desired to create your collage.

Step 3:
Open Photoshop
Create a new document
- Click file
- Click new
- Click drop down menu
- Click U.S. Paper (8.5x11)
Step 4:
Place a background image to collage on, this can be a texture, a picture or a flat color
Step 5:
- Open your images in Photoshop (individually)
- Select the all of the image by hitting Cmd + A (select all)
- Copy and paste each image onto new document (cmd + c= Copy and cmd + v= Paste)
Note: You can use various selecting tools (i.e. Polygonal Lasso tool or magnetic lasso tool) to select whole image or an area from the image you want to use to include in your collage.
Step 6:
Arrange and re-size (using CTRL + T- free transform) as desired to create your collage.
