Final Exam/ Project:
This Project is due Friday, June 9th
Part I: Project
Introduction:
Throughout the year we have explored various themes and techniques in photography. For your final project you are to create, compose and implement such themes and techniques into a series of at least 10 photographs.
Criteria:
- Choose one theme from below
- Google search your topic (look at examples taken by other photographers, FIND INSPIRATION! Save images if needed)
- Take pictures (at least 25 images) both inside and out of school (if applicable).
- Choose how you will edit images
- Written Reflection (see below for guidelines)
- Upload your 10 best images and your written reflection to your google drive account label the folder Final Project
Themes (Choose One):
Portraiture:
Create a series of either self or peer portraits, focus on lighting and background, color (photo filters) and possibly textures.
Architecture:
Choose some place in which architecture intrigues you and/or creates an interesting composition to build into a series of photographs. Focus on how the shapes interact with the composition of the photographs.
Nature:
Look at photographer Ansel Adams and his series of photographs of nature as your source of inspiration. Focus on light, value and shadow. Your series does not have to be in black in white.
Famous Photographer:
Search the names of the following photographers (listed below) and see if you like their work. When you find one you like make a series of photographs in a similar style or genre or copy imagery as needed
Lighting:
Create a series of photographs focusing on the various lighting techniques and their effect on photography. Choose subject matter to photograph (i.e. Still life of objects)
Line:
The element of line can be very influential in photography mostly in directing the view around the photograph. Focus on this element within your series, research line and photography for inspiration.
Written Assignment:
Choose five photographs (from the photographer list below) and create a written response to each photograph. Focus on composition, lighting, point of view etc. to write your analysis on the works. Responses should be 1 page in length for each picture.
Other:
Choose your own topic separate from that which is listed above, brainstorm ideas, and map out what you wish to photograph. This project must be approved by Mr. Thompson.
NOTE:
This project is self-led; all of your decisions are to be made and implemented by you. Of course you are welcome to run ideas by me and I will give you my opinion however, ultimately the final decisions are yours to make. I will be meeting with you individually at the beginning to discuss ideas and progress. This should be your best work. Enjoy and have fun!

Not So Good Examples:
It is not to say that these are necessarily "BAD", however, they lack:
- Continuity
- Elements of Composition
- Pictures look more like "rushed" snapshots
- Lack of Editing techniques taught in class
- Poor choice of theme/ series

!!!MAKE A GOOD CHOICE!!!
Far too often I see students choose topics for their concentration that are too broad and lack focus some of these include, but are not limited to:
- EYES
- BUILDINGS
- PETS
- PLANTS
Be careful when choosing your topic
